Cecilia Concerts Presents: The Los Angeles Times called former child prodigy and Juno award winner Lara St. John“a volcanic violinist with a huge, fabulous tone that pours out of her like molten lava.” Pianist, composer, and arranger Matt Herskowitz, has produced critically acclaimed recordings, premiered works in New York’s Central Park, collaborated with top classical, jazz and pop artists, and performed at music festivals across the globe. For this breath-taking and dazzlingly unique Halifax concert, Lara performs on the 1779 Salabue Guadagnini violin, combining the highly charged technique of a classical virtuoso with Matt Herskowitz’s prowess in jazz, world music, and free improvisation. Together they perform Bartok’s Rhapsody No. 2, Sz. 89 and 90, BB 96, Gershwin’s But Not for Me and I Got Rhythm (arranged by Herskowitz), and Bizet’s Carmen Fantasie along with other works for violin and piano.

Le Los Angeles Times a qualifié Lara St. John, ancienne enfant prodige et lauréate d’un prix Juno, « de violoniste volcanique, au ton énorme et fabuleux qui se déverse comme une lave en fusion. » Pour sa part, le pianiste, compositeur et arrangeur Matt Herskowitz a produit des enregistrements acclamés par la critique, interprété des œuvres en avant première dans Central Park à New York, collaboré avec de grands artistes classiques, jazz et pop, et s’est produit dans des festivals à travers le monde. Pour ce concert unique qui s’annonce époustouflant et éblouissant, Lara jouera sur le violon Salabue Guadagnini de 1779, combinant la technique et la virtuosité classique avec les prouesses aux accents de jazz, de musique du monde et d’improvisation de Matt Herskowitz. Ensemble, Ils interpréteront ensemble notamment la Rhapsodie n° 2 de Béla Bartók, Sz. 89 et 90, BB 96, Not for Me et I Got Rhythm de George Gershwin (arrangement de Herskowitz), ainsi que Fantaisie sur Carmen d’après l’œuvre de Georges Bizet.
