Les Boréades performs music from the late 17th century when English composers developed their unique harmonic language despite Italian and French influences. Works by Locke, Blow, and Purcell showcase this distinctive expressiveness that emerged as the sonata replaced viole consorts and new instrumental practices flourished. Founded by Francis Colpron in 1991, Les Boréades brings the period to life using authentic instruments and historical performance techniques.
