Be among the first to welcome Tafelmusik’s new Principal Guest Director, violinist Rachel Podger, in our all-Mozart season opener. Described by the Toronto Star as “a ray of sunshine,” Rachel Podger is living proof that clichés are often true. Her interpretations are as luminous as her personality. Known for her “serene virtuoso fluency” (Gramophone), Podger begins her new role with an all-Mozart extravaganza at Koerner Hall.
Our 2024/25 Season opener features Mozart’s incidental music for Thamos, King of Egypt, a treasure new to both Podger and Tafelmusik. The concert also includes Mozart’s Violin Concerto no.2 in D Major, following Podger’s stunning 2023 performance of Concerto no.1. At the heart of the program is Mozart’s Symphony no.41 in C Major, “Jupiter”—a revolutionary masterpiece filled with vigour and optimism, and his final symphony before his untimely death at age 35.
