A concert by the Orchestre Métropolitain,

featuring Marie-Josée Lord, in support of people living with kidney disease

Montreal, October 12, 2016 – The New Lease on Life benefit event for The Kidney Foundation of Canada is set to take place on November 11, 2016, at La Maison Symphonique. This special concert will be the event’s second edition.

The benefit event will help a good cause, the fight to beat kidney disease, which currently affects over 550,000 people in Quebec. The concert’s artistic theme will include symphonic works ranging from Carmen to West Side Story and will be accompanied by the exquisite voice of Marie-Josée Lord. The OM, conducted by Dina Gilbert, will surely treat the audience to an unforgettable experience.

Orchestre Métropolitain Consisting of some 60 musicians, most of whom are graduates of Quebec conservatories and faculties of music, the Orchestre Métropolitain has adopted, from its founding in 1981, a distinctive approach that is rooted in its unshakeable determination to democratize and promote symphonic music. Since the appointment of Yannick Nézet-Séguin as its artistic director in 2000, the Orchestre’s reputation has steadily grown – in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and abroad.

In its programming, the Orchestre Métropolitain affirms its pride in being what it is: authentic, bold, dedicated, passionate. The Orchestre’s activities reflect its core values of accessibility and community involvement, of artistic innovation and creativity. The Orchestre stands apart through its desire to share its enthusiasm for symphonic music and make it available to all. The Orchestre Métropolitain is both the quest for excellence and an invitation to musical culture, which takes the form of its Music Lovers of the Future program, pre-concert talks, many educational and community partnerships and the some 20 concerts it performs each season in Montreal boroughs, the result of more than 25 years of collaboration with the Conseil des arts de Montréal On Tour program.

A word about kidney failure

According to estimates, one in 14 Quebecers suffers from renal failure. The incidence of renal failure among Quebecers is remarkably high. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the two main causes of kidney failure and are responsible for 50% to 60% of end-stage renal failure, the stage at which kidney function has declined to less than 15% of capacity. Once the disease reaches this stage, kidney patients’ only options for survival are dialysis or a transplant.
