COMTESSA is a Montreal-based ensemble that brings the music of the 11th to 15th centuries to life through dynamic performances and meticulous research. Led by Isabelle Douailly-Backman (medieval fiddle), Len Torrie (voice), Maria Gajraj (organetto), the group combines period instruments and vocal artistry to create an immersive journey into medieval soundscapes. Featuring women and nonbinary performers, COMTESSA offers a fresh and vibrant perspective on this timeless repertoire.
