Hendoustan brings together four exceptional musicians in a musical encounter where the traditions of Persia and the Indian subcontinent converge.
For centuries, these great cultures have been connected through trade, scholarship, and artistic exchange. Along the routes linking Central Asia, Persia, and India, musicians shared melodic modes, rhythmic systems, and improvisational practices that continue to resonate today. Although these traditions evolved along distinct paths, they still speak a deeply related musical language.
The ensemble features Aditya Verma, one of the leading exponents of the Maihar-Senia sarod tradition of North India; Anjana Srinivasan, a Carnatic violinist celebrated for the richness of her ornamentation and exceptional rhythmic artistry; Mohammad Sahraei, whose tar playing is deeply rooted in the Persian radif tradition; and Ziya Tabassian, whose expressive and nuanced approach to the tombak creates a vibrant space for musical dialogue.
Together, they reimagine this shared heritage through a living, contemporary creation in which improvisation, virtuosity, and attentive listening become the meeting point between two of the world’s oldest musical traditions.
