The musical heritage of certain Jewish communities in 17th- and 18th-century Europe—particularly in Italy, Holland, England, and other regions—offers a striking exampleof the convergence between ancient Jewish cantorial traditions and contemporary European musical styles.
A number of these works were commissioned by Jewish communities from non-Jewish composers, such as Carlo Grossi and Christoph-Gottlieb Lidarti, who nonethelessset Hebrew texts within their compositions. This unique cultural exchange gave rise to a repertoire of remarkable richness and originality.
This program presents a selection of these works, alongside modern compositions and arrangements inspired by 18th-century sources, creating a dialogue betweenhistorical traditions and contemporary perspectives.
