Montreal, April 23, 2025 – The Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) is preparing to welcome 24 of the finest emerging classical singers to Montreal. Selected from 348 applicants from around the globe, these exceptional young artists, between the ages of 25 and 32, are already recognized among the most outstanding performers of their generation.
From May 25 to June 6, 2025, Montreal brings together these 24 passionate young singers from diverse backgrounds, who are prepared to captivate audiences through the mastery of their art.

Music unites us beyond borders, and the CMIM is proud to provide candidates from 16 countries this exceptional opportunity to compete in a fair and friendly environment,” stated Chantal Poulin, Executive Director of the CMIM.
FIRST ROUND
The competitors of Voice 2025 will be afforded at least two opportunities to impress the international jury.
The eight sessions of the First Round, presented with piano at Salle Bourgie, offers the opportunity to listen to and enjoy the remarkable virtuosity and musicality of all 24 competitors. For the first time at the CMIM, each competitor will perform twice during the First Round, in complementary programs dedicated first to Aria (May 25, 26, and 27), followed by Art Song (May 28 and 29).
“The different rounds of Voice 2025 have been designed to allow performers to fully explore the rich vocal repertoire, including contemporary arias and works by Canadian composers. Voice 2025 will highlight the versatility and readiness of each singer for the varied demands of an international career today,” noted Shira Gilbert, Artistic Director of the CMIM.

FIRST ROUND: PERFORMANCE ORDER FOR STAGE 2 – ART SONG
FROM ONE ROUND TO THE NEXT
At the conclusion of the First Round, the international jury will select five singers to compete in the Art Song Prize Final, presented at Salle Bourgie, on Saturday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m.
At the same time, the jury will also select ten singers to compete in the Semifinal on the evenings of June 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Maison symphonique de Montréal. Of these ten semifinalists, five singers will later be chosen to advance to the Grand Finale on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. They will have the privilege of performing alongside the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the official orchestra of the CMIM, led by Guest Conductor Patrick Summers.

PRIZES CELEBRATING THE BEST OF THE NEW GENERATION
Awards totaling more than $160,000 will be presented during Voice 2025. These prizes, grants, and engagements will be announced progressively throughout the competition, beginning on the evenings of May 29 and 31 at Salle Bourgie, then, after the Final at Maison symphonique on June 6.
This gradual unveiling of prize winners will build the suspense towards the climactic moments of the Closing Awards Ceremony on Friday, June 6, when we will learn the names of the laureates of Voice 2025!

THE INTERNATIONAL JURY OF VOICE 2025
The international jury of Voice 2025 is chaired by the world-renowned Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka. The jury brings together distinguished figures from the world of opera and classical music, including performers and influential personalities: Harolyn Blackwell, Iain Burnside, Étienne Dupuis, Anthony Freud, Susan Graham, Roberto Mauro, and Christina Scheppelmann. The jury will evaluate the various performances and determine the competition laureates and prize winners. The CMIM is proud to provide its competitors with the invaluable opportunity to be heard by this prestigious international panel.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF VOICE 2025
Among the highlights of Voice 2025, all competitors will have the opportunity to perform at least three times in Quebec: twice during the First Round and a third beyond the competition rounds, with the CMIM On the Road.
Now in its second year, this initiative provides an additional showcase for these exceptional artists of the new generation who do not advance to the Semifinal. In addition, it allows music lovers to experience high-level performances in a variety of venues, expanding the musical experience of the CMIM for Quebec’s cultural community.
Montreal audiences will also reconnect with some of their favourite singers from past Voice editions at a concert dedicated to Schubert’s lieder on Sunday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. Having won the hearts of both the CMIM audience and jury, soprano Harriet Burns (2nd prize laureate, Voice 2022), baritone Julien Van Mellaerts (2nd prize laureate, Voice 2018), and Ian Tindale (collaborative pianist, 2nd prize, Voice 2022) return to Montreal for this special recital, presented in partnership with Salle Bourgie.
