TORONTO, Aug. 28, 2020 – The Amadeus Choir has announced a season like no other in its 47-year history. With a broad range of artistic activities and educational programming, the Choir is presenting a combination of virtual and live events.
“We are embracing the upcoming season as an opportunity for innovation and community-building,” says Artistic Director, Kathleen Allan. “It’s the perfect time to focus on generating new work, connecting with other artists and organizations across the country, and growing our capacity for the future.”
The first major artistic project is a collaboration with Métis composer and media artist, Eliot Britton, who will work with the singers of the Amadeus Choir in creating an interactive, virtual composition for choir and electronics set to premiere in late fall, 2020.
The Singing Garden will be an outdoor, immersive, live choral experience in the late spring of 2021. Directed by visionary Canadian director Aria Umezawa, the event will feature the choir in surround sound singing specially curated choral music from throughout the ages.
The Choral Skills Bootcamp, a virtual course for choral singers anywhere in the world, offers the chance for singers to keep their musicianship “in shape.” Along with the Choral Creation Lab, a season-long residency for composers and poets spear-headed by composer Andrew Balfour, and an intensive virtual workshop for conductors, the Choir’s educational programming is blossoming under the circumstances.
Singing telegrams, a virtual holiday carolling party, and the continuation of the popular new podcast, “The Chorus Effect” round out what promises to be an exciting, if unconventional, Amadeus Choir season.
