Victoria, BC – Music fills the warm summer air once again as Pacific Opera Victoria presents Open Air: Opera in the Summer from July 18 to 27, featuring free and ticketed music events throughout the Capital Regional District.
The Baumann Centre rings with family-friendly afternoon performances of Ben Moore’s Odyssey from July 18 to 20. For five days, from July 22 to 27, Pacific Opera singers will be in parks and surprise public spaces with concerts and free Pop Up Opera events. Pacific Opera together with the Victoria Symphony will deliver one of the signature musical events of the summer with a concert at Butchart Gardens on Thursday July 24 at 8pm.
Pacific Opera’s Youth Summer Performance Program presents a fully-staged production of Odyssey, a 50-minute opera by Ben Moore, on July 18 at 4pm (sold out), July 19 at 2pm, July 20 at 2pm (sold out). Due to popular demand, a fourth performance has been added July 20 at 7pm. Starring talented local singers aged 8 to 18 alongside opera professionals, this epic tale comes to life with music, magic, and myth, making it a perfect afternoon or evening out for opera lovers of all ages. Under the stars at The Butchart Gardens on July 24, Pacific Opera Principal Conductor Giuseppe Pietraroia leads the Victoria Symphony Orchestra and the Pacific Opera Chorus, with special guests. Celebrated Canadian Soprano Lauren Margison returns to Victoria alongside one of Canada’s leading tenors, Adam Luther. Pacific Opera audiences will remember Margison and Luther for their portrayals of Micaëla and Don José in 2022’s production of Carmen. Victoria pianist Patrick Cao will perform with the Victoria Symphony for the first time, with a movement of Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto. Residents and visitors to the CRD are encouraged to keep their ears open, as local singers will be making surprise appearances, bringing bursts of live opera into everyday spaces from July 22 to 27. Watch for surprise Pop Up Opera events throughout Greater Victoria. This year Mini-Concerts have been added, free 15-minute outdoor performances, happening at set times and locations, giving music lovers the chance to plan ahead and bring a friend.
