We explore Pärt’s mystical and meditative style, and then listen to the premier of Paul Haas’ new symphony, based on the tale of a Métis woman stranded on Isle Royale. Next we travel through Rautavaara’s icy arctic musical landscapes: serene and painfully beautiful, and end with Gershwin, one of the most important outsider figures in 20th-century music.
