Joliette – August 11, 2026. Driven by a spectacular and deeply unifying opening concert, the Gala de la Terre by the Orchestre de l’Agora under the direction of Nicolas Ellis, and crowned by a riveting performance of Verdi’s Macbeth, presented by the Orchestre Métropolitain under the masterful baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the 49th Festival de Lanaudière once again reaffirmed its position as Canada’s largest classical music festival and one of North America’s most prestigious, inspiring, and essential musical events.

Over the course of a month, the Festival offered moments of extraordinary artistic intensity, where excellence, emotion, and beauty came together in exceptional settings. Between the opening concert on July 3 and the closing performance on August 2, more than 30 concerts were presented at the Fernand-Lindsay Amphitheatre, in Lanaudière’s churches, and in cultural and agrotourism venues throughout the region. Conceived by Artistic Director Renaud Loranger around the theme of power, this ambitious and bold program explored the many facets of a force that has shaped history and remains more relevant than ever. By bringing together masterpieces of the classical repertoire and many of today’s most sought-after artists, the Festival also continued its commitment to welcoming new audiences.
“The 2026 Festival once again concluded in grand fashion, with the tidal wave of Macbeth still resonating in our ears after a series of outstanding operatic and musical events of which it was both the culmination and the natural conclusion. The loyalty of our artists and audiences remains unwavering: their meeting is the Festival itself.”
— Renaud Loranger, Artistic Director

Welcoming more than 28,000 festivalgoers, this year’s Festival also featured many of the world’s leading soloists, orchestras, and ensembles, further strengthening Lanaudière’s growing reputation among both artists and audiences.
“This edition once again demonstrates the unique place Festival de Lanaudière holds within Quebec’s cultural landscape. The response from audiences, the generosity of our artists, and the commitment of our partners remind us that the Festival is far more than a concert series—it is a vibrant gathering rooted in its community and looking confidently toward the future. As we approach our 50th edition, which we will celebrate next year, we close this season with gratitude, confidence, and a deep desire to continue this remarkable dialogue between artists, great works, and audiences.”
— Laurie-Anne Deilgat, Executive Director

Mentorship Program: Supporting the Next Generation
Thanks to the generosity of the Jacques-Martin Fund, a new cohort of emerging artists took part in the Festival’s mentorship program. Over several days, Amellie Gendron (violin), Samuel Lauzon-Schnittka(piano), Ian Sabourin (countertenor), Sara Schabas (soprano), and Arthur Touly-Berche (conducting) had the opportunity to meet some of the music world’s leading figures, attend rehearsals, participate in workshops, and receive personalized guidance to support the beginning of their professional careers.
Music Under the Open Sky
Remaining true to its mission of accessibility, the Festival continued to expand its free and family-friendly programming. The Cinema Under the Stars series, Open House Day, family activities, and free concerts enabled thousands of people to discover classical music in a welcoming and festive atmosphere. This commitment to building bridges between artistic disciplines was also reflected in Silent Macbeth, a touring theatrical production by La fille du laitier, inspired by Shakespeare’s play and presented in several Lanaudière municipalities as a prelude to the Festival’s closing performance of Verdi’s Macbeth.
