Montreal, Tuesday November 22, 2022 – Faithful to tradition, Bourgie Hall offers again this year a rich and varied program that is sure to delight music lovers this Holiday season. Jazz, classical music, Christmas songs old and new, family concerts… everything is in place for audiences to enjoy the spirit of end-of-year celebrations with music.

The first concert to launch the celebrations will take place on December 4, at 2:30 p.m.  Ensemble Alkemia offers a tour of the world in songs and music for children aged 6 and up. In this family concert titled Un monde pour Noël, soprano Dorothéa Ventura, mezzo-soprano Stéphanie Pothier and tenor Jean-François Daignault explore diverse Christmas traditions from here and abroad. Presented in French, in coproduction with Jeunesses musicales Canada.

On December 7, at 7:30 p.m., the spotlight is on Schubert’s magnificent music. Mathieu Gaudet performs five works by the Viennese master on Bourgie Hall’s Érard piano, among these one of his last piano sonatas, the monumental D. 958 which opens Schubert’s last three piano sonatas triptych. A versatile artist and passionate musician, Mathieu Gaudet has been pursuing a remarkable career as a soloist and chamber musician for over twenty years, interpreting a vast repertoire that has taken him throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear this brilliant pianist, who is currently recording Schubert’s complete piano works, available on the Analekta label.

On December 8, at 6 p.m., jazz lovers will be dazzled by Kellylee Evans’s mellifluous voice. Having recorded seven albums, the JUNO award-winning singer will captivate audiences with a mix of Christmas classics and original songs. A dynamic performer with natural charisma, she will be accompanied by four talented musicians with impressive accomplishments: Ed Lister on the trumpet, pianist Steve Boudreau, bassist and double bassist Chris Pond as well as Stephen Adubofuor on drums.

On December 9, at 7:30 p.m., Buzz Cuivres celebrates Christmas to the sound of trumpets, horns and trombones. The brass quintet presents a concert that perfectly embodies the humour and festive atmosphere of this special time of the year. This concert comprising arrangements of Christmas carols and modern works will make the audience sway to the rhythm of the Holidays.

On December 11, at 2:30 p.m., Ensemble Clematis is in town with a fascinating concept: bringing together during a single concert various works by German composers of the 17th century, in the spirit of a Christmas oratorio. The result of extensive research conducted at the Düben collection housed in the Uppsala University Library (Sweden), these works by Briegel, Bernhard, Buxtehude, Capricornus, Flor, Hammerschmidt, Pohle, Praetorius, Schelle, Schütz, Selle and Tunder are sure to delight baroque music lovers.

On December 13, at 7:30 p.m., the Tallis Scholars pay homage to the Virgin Mary, by featuring a selection of works from the Renaissance to today by Lassus, Josquin, Matthew Martin, Stravinsky, Arvo Pärt, Isaac and Guerrero. Under the leadership of its founder and conductor, Peter Philips, this renowned English ensemble, hailed for its distinctive sonorities at once clear and flexible, brings a novel perspective to the works it performs. Acclaimed for over four decades both in concert and on CD, their presence in Montreal is an event not to be missed.

On December 14 and 15 at 6 p.m. and on December 16 at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., the Taurey Butler Trio and A Charlie Brown Christmas are back for an 8th edition. This leading event of the holiday season remains as popular with the public as ever. On December 15, kids aged 8 to 12 who participated in the choral workshop led by François A. Ouimet will perform alongside these seasoned musicians. Please note that an extra performance has been added on December 14.

To end 2022 on a high note, Alain Trudel and his ensemble, along with the Newman Chapel Choir, will perform on December 18, at  2:30 p.m. the cantatas BWV 38, 57 and 121 by Johann Sebastian Bach, as part of year 8 of the complete sacred cantatas by the Leipzig master. Soloists are Andréanne Brisson Paquin, soprano; Martina Myskohlid, mezzo-soprano; Louis-Charles Gagnon, tenor; and Alexandre Sylvestre, bass.
