Montreal – On May 30, A Concert for Kids with Cancer returns for its fifth edition at Valois United Church in Pointe-Claire to raise funds for pediatric oncology at the Montreal Children’s
Hospital through the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation.
This concert was founded by 17-year-old violinist and brain cancer survivor Léandre
Gaucher. In December 2018, at the age of 10, Léandre was diagnosed with a malignant brain
tumour and began treatment at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. He underwent surgery,
radiation, and chemotherapy. During this difficult period, playing the violin provided comfort
and strength and became an important part of his healing.
Now recovered, Léandre and his brother Audrick organize this concert to give back to the
hospital that saved his life. Together with other accomplished musicians, they perform in
support of children facing cancer.
This year’s program features Tristan Blair (cello), Carl Ek (clarinet), Sophie Gong (violin),
Audrick Gaucher (violin), Léandre Gaucher (violin, viola), Judy Hung (piano), Martine
Jomphe (piano), Mathilde Lepage (french horn), Ian Sabourin (counter-tenor), and Thomas
Vinals (tenor).
The concert is presented under the honorary patronage of conductor Adam Johnson.
Cake and refreshments will be served at the intermission, and a raffle with amazing prizes –
including a plane ticket – will follow the concert.
