Montreal, April 18, 2017 – CBC/Radio-Canada announced that the Treasury Board of Canada has approved the new Maison de Radio-Canada (MRC) construction project led by Broccolini. The approval also includes the sale of the existing facility and western part of the lot to Groupe Mach. In the coming months, CBC/Radio-Canada will now work to finalize its agreements with the promoters and complete other steps with the City of Montreal before ground is broken.

“Receiving Treasury Board approval is a critical step in making this project a reality, said Hubert T. Lacroix, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada. It’s another vote of confidence by the government in our efforts to modernize our operations. The new MRC will set the stage for Radio-Canada to become a multiplatform public broadcaster capable of thriving in today’s digital and media environment.”

In late summer, Broccolini will begin construction on the new Maison de Radio-Canada at the corner of René-Lévesque Blvd and Papineau Ave. With its bright, modern and versatile spaces, the new building will add to the dynamic real estate market that has emerged in recent years in the Ville-Marie borough. It will provide visitors and the employees who work there every day with an array of open, welcoming and inviting public spaces.

“The creators, programmers, journalists and other professionals in the building will enjoy a dynamic, stimulating workplace that fosters collaboration and innovation,” said Michel Bissonnette, Executive Vice-President of Radio-Canada. “Our new MRC will be a creative space that acts as a catalyst for developing the country’s top productions and talent. It will be the place where creators go to bring their ideas to life.”

Radio-Canada is scheduled to take possession of its new facility in early 2020 as the sole tenant under a 30-year lease. Redevelopment of the western part of the property will get underway after the public broadcaster has completed its move.

The site redevelopment project, with the new MRC as its centrepiece, will contribute significantly to the urban renewal of the neighbourhood that Radio-Canada has called home for decades. The project is a key component in creating a new gateway to the city’s east end that will make Montrealers proud.
