CALGARY, AB, June 17, 2021—The Honens International Piano Competition announces the 2022 edition schedule, which was postponed from 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 50 Quarterfinalists chosen to participate in the Competition remain in place for 2022, as will the juries and collaborating artists, where possible. Quarterfinalists hail from 18 different countries. The Quarterfinals take place in Frankfurt (March 14 to 17) and New York (March 24 to 26). In this round, each of the 50 selected pianists performs a 40-minute self-programmed solo recital and completes an interview with an arts journalist. All performances are recorded on video for…

The undeniable talent of this young 27-year-old pianist, her technique, her musicality, combined with a fair and daring program choice transcended the screen and convinced the international jury. The second prize, the Pierre Péladeau and Raymonde Chopin Prize, and the 3rd Prize offered by Stingray…
The eyes and ears of the music world were focused last week on the Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM), held under conditions no one would have imagined a year ago when the competition was cancelled because of COVID-19. We all knew the competition this year was going to be different, but how different, and how successful? The short answers are very different and, so far, highly successful. “The positive feedback so far has been tremendous,” commented CMIM executive and artistic director Christiane LeBlanc. “The whole team and I are extremely satisfied in how things are unfolding so far. It has…

The sudden closing of international borders last year had an immediate and inevitable effect on the 2020 edition of Concours musical international de Montréal. But rather than cancel the event, the CMIM invited the competitors to come back in 2021 – digitally. Susan Wadsworth, one of nine judges, listened to the preliminary round last year and is looking forward to hearing the candidates again. “I think the competition attracts a very, very high level,” she says. “I was amazed that there were at least 10 pianists in the preliminary round who I thought were outstandingly fantastic.” What makes a musician…

“It’s the biggest logistical challenge of my career,” Christiane LeBlanc, executive and artistic director of the Concours musical international de Montréal, said about the prospect of organizing a competition from the end of April through the middle of May. This statement might seem odd, since none of the contestants or jurors have to be flown to Montreal and suitably housed. Nor is there any need to book the Maison symphonique or the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. The competition this year, devoted to the piano, is entirely solo and entirely online. And available free to enthusiasts around the world. The 26…
