We reach for the stars, but gradually learn that truth and beauty are right in front of us. The Earth Day concert starts with Holst’s explosive Mars and Jupiter, returning to earth with Philip Glass’ minimalist masterpiece, The Light — before Satie’s deceptively simple Gymnopédie takes us gently into the wonder around us. Then Penman’s Songs the Plants Taught Us celebrates the natural wisdom in all creatures. We finish with Copland’s Appalachian Spring, leaving us hopeful for humanity — and our world!
