The Gaucho Jazz Project is an exploration of Argentinian folk traditions reimagined through the expansive lens of modern jazz. Blending the rhythmic spirit of the Argentinian Cuyo and Northwest regions with the sophisticated jazz improvisations, the ensemble breathes new life into the classics and contemporary compositions of the Argentinian repertoire.
The project is anchored by Patricio Llovet, drummer and Argentinian folk specialist, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Andre Valerio, and Canadian saxophonist, Patrick Smith. Together, they transform traditional forms like the zamba, chacarera, and tango into a playground for spontaneous dialogue and harmonic discovery.
