Enchanted Night invites audiences to explore the mysterious landscapes of the night, where the imagination takes flight. From the serene beauty of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata to the dreamlike worlds of Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, and the supernatural ride of Schubert’s Erlkönig, this program evokes dreams, legends, and profound emotions. It concludes with Brahms’s passionate Piano Sonata No. 3, a youthful masterpiece infused with poetry and dramatic intensity. A recital in which music reveals the evocative power of the night. This musical journey is brought to life by Toronto-born pianist Jonathan Mak, one of Canada’s most promising young artists. Winner of First Prize at the 2024 Sorel-Tracy International Music Competition and the 2023 Bader & Overton Canadian Piano Competition, he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Rice University under the guidance of internationally acclaimed pianist Jon Kimura Parker. A recipient of prestigious Sylva Gelber Music Foundation grants and the Walter Przystawski Award, Jonathan Mak is recognized for the depth of his interpretations and the maturity of his artistry.
