Under the artistic direction of Pauline Vaillancourt, the lyrical creation company Chants Libres is organizing the 6th edition of Oper’Actuel Works in Progress 2019 event.
One of the primary purposes of our creation company is to encourage composers and librettists to write new forms of opera. Through this recurring event, we have the unique opportunity to hear excerpts from the operas that these artists are working on, as they share the creative process of their writing projects with us. In addition to fostering the emergence of new works and familiarizing young singers and musicians with these new forms of expression, this meeting with the new generation shows the public the multitude of styles, witnesses to an era. The creative and educational nature of this event brings together presenters, professionals, teachers and creators and opens the door to a young new audience.
Six tandems of composers and librettists have been selected following the international call for proposals launched in early April 2018. After our jury makes its selection in June 2018, the public will be able to watch these 20-minute excerpts, performed by young singers and musicians from the contemporary creative workshops and laboratories of various universities and conservatories, during two free performances.
