As part of Montréal en Lumière’s Nuit blanche, Bourgie Hall invites the audience to enjoy a unique musical experience with Archives. This project by Québec-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Cédric Dind-Lavoie, is presented on February 28, 2026, in three free performances at 8 p.m., 9:15 p.m., and 10:30 p.m.
For his first time at Bourgie Hall, Cédric Dind-Lavoie presents a show that blends heritage and creativity, where Quebec folklore archives meet ambient and introspective music. Reclaiming old treasures uncovered through his passionate research, the musician reinterprets a selection of songs and instrumental tunes from the 1940s and 1950s, drawn in particular from the collections of folklorists Simonne Voyer, Roger Matton, and Luc Lacourcière.
Primarily on piano, Cédric Dind-Lavoie accompanies these voices and melodies from the past, giving them a modern, sensitive, and intimate musical setting. He is joined on stage by fiddler Alexis Chartrand, whose presence affirms a deep grounding in the codes of tradition. Together, they form a unique trio with the archive station, which broadcasts these sound relics in real time, sometimes played directly from reel-to-reel tape or vinyl, echoing the original recording methods.
This encounter between past and present is enhanced by Rémi Giguère’s sound design, Gabriel Payeur’s lighting, and Karine Gauthier’s sensitive set design, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in a contemplative listening experience. Far from being a simple act of nostalgia, Archives reveals this heritage in a new light, as if the musicians had slipped through the fabric of time to encounter these voices and their stories, and bring them into the present.
