Public health director Horacio Arruda has announced that Quebecers will be allowed take part in gatherings of up to 50 people as of June 22. These new mesures will allow movie theatres and performance venues to reopen as well as CEGEP and university classrooms.

While movie theatres expect to be able welcome filmgoers by July 3rd, most concert venues plan to stay closed throughout the summer as the majority of their performances have already been canceled. In most cases, it would also be more expensive to present performances before a reduced audience than to remain closed until larger groups are allowed inside.

People will be expected to stay 1.5 metres away from one another in spaces with seating, specifically those where no one is talking. Otherwise, the 2 metre rule still applies. The required social distance for children 16 and under will drop to one metre. These physical distance rules will not apply to those coming from the same household, however, wearing a mask or face covering is still strongly recommended when in large indoor gatherings.

These news measures have been announced following a drop in new COVID-19 cases across the province of Quebec.
