A SPECIAL INVITATION FROM THE VSO

Dear friends, colleagues, ticket holders and supporters,

Last weekend the VSO opened BeethovenFest with Maestro Tausk leading a triumphant performance of Beethoven, Shostakovich, and our own Rodney Sharman. Monday saw a superb VSO chamber concert and Wednesday an innovative and vibrant VSO debut performance at none other than the Commodore.

Then everything changed. On Thursday, as a result of the recent ban on mass gatherings implemented by BC Health, the VSO along with many BC arts organizations had to cancel our public performances. As we begin to come to terms with the immense impact this will have on our sector we are committed to identifying creative solutions. Music and the arts are the heart of our community. We are facing unprecedented times and we need music now more than ever.

In the last few days we have seen a global philosophical ‘coming together’ in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19. We have committed to physically distance ourselves from one another to protect ourselves, our loved ones and our community. It’s the right thing to do.

Ironically, it’s precisely in times of crisis that the human spirit is compelled to come together. The word Symphony in fact means coming together. As such, tomorrow afternoon, Maestro Tausk and the musicians of the VSO invite you to come together with us in a virtual finale to BeethovenFest.

At 2:00 pm we will livestream Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony “Pastorale” direct from the Orpheum. This is our gift of gratitude to you during this challenging time. We invite you to join us to watch the performance live on this webpage.

Now more than ever we ask for your support to assist us in navigating these difficult times. Please consider making a donation to support the VSO here or by calling our staff this week. Our phone lines will be open from 10am to 4pm Monday and then regular hours starting Tuesday.

We are so grateful to be able to make music with you and for you. The VSO is taking a short intermission from live performances and looks forward to playing again for you very soon.

Sincerely,

Angela Elster

President & CEO
VSO and VSO School of Music
