Music Monday 2013
Launched by the Coalition for Music Educators in 2005, Music Monday unites over 600,000 music students and teachers across Canada in a simultaneous expression of music making on the first Monday in May (May 6, 2013) at 1 p.m. Eastern time. This year’s official song “Is Someone Singing”, composed by Barenaked Ladies’ Ed Robertson with lyrics by Robertson and astronaut Chris Hadfield, is downloadable from www.musicmonday.ca/arrangements/.

Musicians of the World Symphony Orchestra
Montreal’s Musicians of the World Symphony Orchestra celebrates 7 years of music making with a Gala concert at the Rialto Theatre on Thursday, May 9, at 8:00pm, a tribute to the great jazz musicians of the 20th century with a symphonic twist and featuring pianist Julie Lamontagne .

The musical festival season opens with the MCMF. The 18th editition takes place from May 9 to June 1 at St. George’s Anglican Church. True to tradition, artistic director Denis Brott spares us no surprises. Performers include the Emerson and Fine Arts Quartets, the Swingle Singers, and pianists Jean-Philippe Collard and Oliver Jones, to name a few. This year’s four-hour marathon is dedicated to Tchaikovsky. www.festivalmontreal.org

World Premieres and Resident Artists at the Chapelle Bon-Pasteur
May 10, Maxime McKinley, resident composer at the Chapelle Bon-Pasteur, invites violinist Julie-Anne Derome and cellist Gabriel Prynn to perform the world premiere of works by Haruyuki Suzuki and McKinley. Montreal International Musical Competition (MIMC/CMIM)
The MIMC welcomes Maxim Vengerov to the post of official conductor of the 2013 Violin edition of the competition, which runs from May 6 to 17. Mr. Vengerov will conduct the OSM, accompanying the finalists on May 14 and 15, as well as the winners on May 17 at the Montreal Symphony House.
