In the framework of the Faculty of Music’s 75th anniversary, two ensembles from contrasting sound worlds will meld their creative energies for an exceptional evening where contemporary jazz meets chamber music for strings.
A product of the New York avant-garde jazz scene, the quintet Michael Bates’ Acrobat joins the Cobalt Quartet, a Montreal-based string ensemble well known in the music creation community and made up of four Faculty performance graduates. Together they’ll be exploring unprecedented musical territory shaped by arrangements of works from the contemporary repertoire created by Michael Bates and the premiere of the work Breath of Nature, composed especially for the occasion by François-Hugues Leclair, associate professor at the Faculty.
A cross-border dialogue where improvisation, textures, rhythms and expressive lines intersect in a shared gesture of sonic freedom.
