Toronto Jazz Fest: Irene Torres

Peruvian-Canadian vocalist and visual artist Irene Torres is a dynamic frontwoman celebrated for her powerful voice and deeply emotive performances. As the lead vocalist for the Afro-Cuban rock band Battle of Santiago and Eric St-Laurent’s Science Fiction Cumbia, she has toured internationally, captivating global audiences in both Spanish and English. Irene is prominently featured on Battle of Santiago’s single “La Vecina” and their album Santos Y Pecadores (Saints and Sinners), as well as Science Fiction Cumbia’s Arizona: Volume 1.

Deeply influenced by her roots, Irene’s latest solo project, the album Travesía (Voyage)—released with independent label VMI—seamlessly weaves traditional Peruvian instrumentation with intimate, personal storytelling. The project beautifully highlights her artistic growth and unwavering dedication to her rich cultural heritage.
