Summer Solstice Festivals: Siqiniup Qilauta Inuit Throat Singers

0

Siqiniup Qilauta, meaning “the sun’s drum,” takes its name from an Inuit legend about the halo that appears around the sun, a symbol of good luck in some Inuit communities. Based in Ottawa, the group shares traditional and contemporary Inuit throat singing, drum dancing, and games through performances and interactive workshops. Their work celebrates Inuit culture, history, strength, and resilience while highlighting the journey of a people who moved from igloo to iPod in a remarkably short time.
