On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) and the 75th anniversary of the Faculty of Music at the Université de Montréal, two flagship institutions of Quebec’s musical landscape join forces to celebrate their long-standing artistic collaboration. The Ensemble de musique contemporaine de l’UdeM (EMC) partners with the Ensemble of the SMCQ to present an exceptional concert dedicated to the richness and vitality of local musical creation. This partnership highlights the deep historical synergy between the Faculty and the SMCQ, which, thanks to the contributions of great composers and pedagogues over the decades, share the same passion for the dissemination, teaching, and development of Quebec contemporary music. Conducted respectively by Jean-Michaël Lavoie (EMC) and Cristian Gort (SMCQ), the two ensembles will perform a bold program featuring works by Walter Boudreau, Serge Garant, Gilles Tremblay, and Ana Sokolović, full professor at the Faculty. The concert will culminate in the world premiere of a work commissioned especially for the occasion from young composer Maxime Daigneault, symbolizing the continuity of this tradition of collaboration and innovation. An unmissable evening to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Quebec contemporary music, where memory meets renewal.
