This unique show, themed around collision, seeks to engage contemporary and general music audiences alike through its radical genre-bending.

Featuring a program of six newly-commissioned works for amplified ensemble, Collide-o-Scope is a groundbreaking experiment in collaborative art music creation. In a reversal of the usual composition-then-performance order for classical music, all pieces were crafted through pre-compositional workshopping by six diverse composer-performers: Electro-pop singer and producer Samantha Selci, funk saxophonist and tape-loop artist Greg Bruce, multidisciplinary electric guitarist Andrew Noseworthy, jazz pianist and ethnomusicologist Keisha Bell, prog rock bassist Tristan Zaba, and metal/improv drummer Nolan Hildebrand. The resultant ensemble is dynamic and flexible; part chamber sextet, part garage band.

The final works to be presented in Collide-o-Scope see these six creators investigate the central theme of collision from unexpected angles. One unique example is Tristan Zaba’s work, featuring musically synchronized fight choreography which he performs alongside martial artist Alex Pachete. Zaba describes his aim in this piece to explore “the philosophical connotations of opposing forces colliding.” Meanwhile, on the opposite end of the spectrum, Keisha Bell’s new work uses the Furies of Greek mythology to show conflict through the ages, prominently featuring vocal effects over original poetry. Although each artist is distinct, their nearly year-long collaboration today results in a remarkably cohesive whole.
