Almost 100 years ago, the great Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe wrote six sonatas for solo violin especially for six of the greatest violinists of his day, including Fritz Kreisler, Josef Szigeti and Georges Enescu. These sonatas are admired and feared as some of the hardest works ever written for violin.
