The birthday celebrations continue with this second installment of New Music Now, highlighting the vast and varied work of Kelly-Marie Murphy, who turns 60 this year. Chamberfest is proud to mark this important milestone for an Ottawa-based composer whose music has been featured on countless Chamberfest programmes — including several Chamberfest commissions — and who is a featured composer on the National Arts Centre Orchestra’s upcoming Korea/Japan tour.
This afternoon’s programme showcases a range of ensemble combinations, including string quartet, piano four-hands, and viola/piano duo. An engaging group of chamber musicians brings Murphy’s music to life, from the gorgeous and intimate Ad Lucem for viola and piano to the driving rhythms of Dr. Blue’s Incredible Bone-Shaking Drill Engine for solo percussion. Spanning tender, jubilant, and everything in between, Kelly-Marie Murphy’s music is innovative, expressive, and unmistakably human. Join us as we celebrate both a milestone birthday and over two decades of musical collaboration.
New Music Now (NMN) tickets are valid for NMN parts I-IV.
