The Gryphon Trio present a programme drawn from the heart of their repertoire. This afternoon’s concert features works by Brahms, Silvestrov, and Ravel — composers whose music has been central to this esteemed Canadian ensemble since their founding over 30 years ago. Opening this afternoon’s concert is Brahms’s Piano Trio No. 3 in C Minor, a sweeping Romantic work that showcases the Trio’s virtuosic artistry and the rare, intuitive connection that comes from decades of shared music-making. The programme then takes a graceful detour as the Trio briefly becomes a duo, with cellist Roman Borys and pianist James Parker performing Silvestrov’s tender Postlude No. 3. To conclude, the Gryphons return as a full ensemble with violinist Annalee Patipatanakoon for Ravel’s evocative Piano Trio in A Minor, a piece they recorded on their 2018 album The End of Flowers, which was awarded the 2019 Juno for Classical Album of the Year.
Join us for an afternoon of world-class music with one of Canada’s most cherished piano trios, returning to the composers whose music has accompanied them throughout their remarkable journey.
This concert is presented with the generous support of Steinway Piano Gallery Ottawa.
