This minimal version of the St John Passion was conceived and premiered by the well-known Icelandic tenor Benedikt Kristjánsson, harpsichordist Elina Albach and percussionist Philipp Lamprecht. As the tenor sings, sometimes speaks or silently mouths the text, he acts out the liturgical drama as well with gestures which recall medieval mystery plays. Not only is this new rendition incredibly moving, it is also highly original and will astonish all who know and love Bach’s Passion so well.
