A concert that conjures up allegorical powers at work in the human imagination since the dawn of time, transcending ideas and passions to sublimate them in music. In stride with the previous day’s Amphitheatre performance of The Coronation of Poppea, Leonardo García Alarcón and his close collaborators take us on a journey into Monteverdi’s inner world, seeking to fathom the composer’s very soul in an extraordinary interplay of contrasts: sin and virtue, secular and sacred, tormented desire and chastity, morality and immorality, conservatism and modernity, and more.
