Ariel Quartet

Formed in Israel in 1998 when its members were middle-school students, the Quartet was awarded the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award in 2014. The Ariel is Faculty Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where they give an annual series of concerts in addition to their busy international touring schedule.

Schumann        Quartet No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 41, No. 1

Beethoven Quartet No. 11 in F Minor, Op. 95, “Serioso”

Webern            Five Movements for String Quartet, Op. 5

Brahms            Quartet No. 2 in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2

 

This programme derives its title from the famous article Schumann wrote in 1853 heralding a new era with the arrival of then-unknown Brahms. The programme highlights the special relationship Schumann and Brahms shared, and looks back to Beethoven and forward to Webern.
