Montreal’s Orchestre National de Jazz (ONJ) and the city’s jazz festival (FIJM) regret to announce the cancellation of Carla Bley and Steve Swallow’s appearance on July 2 at the Monument national. The concert, however, is not cancelled and will be presented as a tribute to the guest composer, forced to bow out for health reasons. The ONJ informs us thatChristine Jensen will direct the orchestra that evening in a program of pieces all penned by Bley. What’s more, it has secured the presence of a cast of guest soloists, the likes of pianists Marianne Trudel, Gentiane MG, Marie-Fatima Rudolf, Helen Sung, as well as trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, and a couple of surprise guests to be added.
