Rosemarie Duval-Laplante and Jean-Michel Dubé join forces at the piano to present Ravel and Gershwin: two continents, two cultures, two geniuses! Discover their richly coloured worlds, blending Impressionistic influences and jazz rhythms through works written for piano four hands as well as arrangements inspired by Ravel’s unique sound palette. Travel from Paris to New York during the first half of the 20th century in the company of two composers who admired one another and, by coincidence, both passed away in the same year. This narrated concert offers insights into the music of Ravel (France) and Gershwin (United States), exploring their influences, creative processes, and the artistic connections between their works. Ravel incorporated jazz elements into his music, while Gershwin admired Ravel so deeply that he sought composition lessons from him. Formed in 2017, the duo of Rosemarie Duval-Laplante and Jean-Michel Dubé brings together two graduates of the Québec Conservatory of Music. They captivate audiences with their charisma, imaginative musical interpretations, and intimate connection at the keyboard. Partners in life for many years, their remarkable complicity is reflected in a sensitive performance style and a unified, expressive sound.
