Newswire | Elora Singers conclude season: Passing of the Year

0

April, 2026 –The Elora Singers bring their 2025–26 season to a close with a captivating
performance of The Passing of the Year by composer Jonathan Dove – a richly expressive
choral work that reflects on the cycles of nature and the passage of time.

Composed for double choir and piano, The Passing of the Year weaves together texts from
poets such as William Blake, Emily Dickinson, and Alfred Lord Tennyson. Across its seven
movements, the piece traces the changing seasons with vivid imagery and emotional
depth—moving from moments of warmth and joy to quiet introspection and renewal.

This special performance will also feature participants from The Elora Singers Studio for
Ensemble Singing, who join the professional ensemble following an intensive week of study,
rehearsal, and artistic collaboration. Emerging singers and conductors will share the stage with
The Elora Singers, bringing fresh perspectives and dynamic energy to this powerful work.

The concert stands as both a culmination and a celebration: of a season of music-making, of
artistic growth, and of the enduring connection between voices raised together. Audiences are
invited to experience an afternoon that captures the beauty of transition and the resonance of
collective sound—an inspiring close to the season that reflects on where we have been and
looks ahead to what is yet to come.

Recently, this performance has been relocated from St. George’s Anglican Church in Guelph to
St. John’s Anglican Church in Elora. The Elora Singers appreciate the understanding of their
audiences and look forward to welcoming patrons to this beautiful Elora venue for the season’s
final concert.
