Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto, 2 December – Our Artistic Director, Kathleen Allan, has been named the 2025 laureate of the Leslie Bell Prize for Choral Conducting by the Ontario Arts Council. This prestigious award honours her outstanding leadership and passion for choral music.
Kathleen will receive the award at our upcoming performance of J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Kingston Road United Church. She will conduct 130 performers, including the Amadeus Choir, musicians from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and singers from the University of Toronto Faculty of Music. This rare full presentation of all six cantatas promises an unforgettable holiday celebration.
From Mary Gray, Board Chair: “Kathleen’s visionary leadership and commitment to choral music have transformed our choir. We are immensely proud and excited for her future achievements.”
The Ontario Arts Council jury highlighted Kathleen’s expressive musicality, ability to foster artistic growth, and dedication to accessibility and mentorship. As a conductor, composer, educator, and soprano, Kathleen also leads Chorus Niagara, teaches at the University of Toronto, and will debut at Carnegie Hall in 2026.
