  • The handwritten partition of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 was sold at £4.54 million ($7.6 million CAN) at Sotheby’s in London. The amount represents a new record in the auction.

  • Bethan Doci, a violinist, was sentenced to 32 months in jail yesterday for extorting £357,000 (≈$600,000CAN) after telling people she needed money to fight cancer. The 38-year old violinist played with the Royal Shakespeare Company Orchestra and other groups.

 

  • French politician who became a conductor and composer Lionel Stoléru passed away yesterday at the age of 79. He was State Secretary under Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and François Mitterrand until 1991. In 1996, he created the Orchestre romantique européen, which disappeared in 2013 due to lack of subsidies.
