Why does Bach sound different from Brahms? A brief overview on the history of music

The dominant style of art in any era does not evolve by chance. Rather, it is an expression of the socio-political and economic history of the era. During this lecture, we will overlay the influence of government regimes, religion, economic prosperity, scientific progress, and cataclysmic world events on the development of classical music.

Dr. Jaap Nico Hamburger is the current Composer in Residence with Mécénat Musica in Montréal and a Canadian Music Centre Associate Composer. His compositions have been performed and recorded in Canada, The Netherlands, and Israel.
