The Festival will pay tribute to him with the Jazz Big Band, Oliver Jones, Lorraine Desmarais, Rafael Zaldivar, Geoff Lapp and other special guests.
Montreal, Monday, June 29, 2015 — Organizers of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal are saddened to learn that Vic Vogel’s current health status will preclude him from participating in his farewell concert. The Montreal pianist and bandleader is ill and has been ordered by his doctor to avoid any strenuous activity; it is therefore with a heavy heart that he has been compelled to pull out of the concert. Nevertheless, in order to pay tribute to a Quebec jazz legend and great friend of the Festival who has performed at 35 editions—a unique exploit in the annals of any major event!—the Festival has decided to invite all the artists scheduled to participate in the concert—the Jazz Big Band with special guests, including Oliver Jones, Lorraine Desmarais, Rafael Zaldivar and Geoff Lapp—to assemble for a unique show as a testament of our affection and to salute the great Vic. Join us for a very emotional evening on Tuesday, June 30, 8 p.m., in Théâtre Maisonneuve, PdA as scheduled.
