Newswire: Ukrainian music for the world “Ukrainian Scores”

0

Monday, March 7, 2022 – As a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian musicians receive many requests from colleagues all around the world to perform works by Ukrainian composers. Due to the need of resisting not only the military but also the information war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, an initiative group of the Lyatoshynsky Club, the Ukrainian Live Classic, and the Ukrainian Institute created the “Ukrainian Scores” project to present a digital library of Ukrainian composers’ scores to the world.

Today, as Ukraine fearlessly and zealously fights Russia, which is ruthlessly bombing Ukrainian cities and killing civilians, we call on everyone to support us and stop the occupiers. Defending universal values and freedoms in the Russian-Ukrainian war, we — Ukrainian musicians, composers, cultural managers — have united to speak about our culture as loudly as we can. Therefore, a resource with notes by Ukrainian composers “Ukrainian Scores” was created.

As a sign of solidarity with Ukrainians, using the resource “Ukrainian Scores”, you can get sheets of Ukrainian composers’ works and perform their music in support of Ukraine in your city. We publish scores from composers who have given their consent to the performance and those that are freely available. A team of professional musicians and project managers will help to select works, advise on the specifics of performance.

The basic principle of the project is its sustainability and focus on constant cooperation with Ukrainian and international partners to expand the Ukrainian repertoire in the world. Scores and parts of Ukrainian symphonic, chamber, vocal, solo works will be sent for free use to world performers, ensembles and orchestras, institutions. Also, to optimize the process of concert organizing for international partners, Lyatoshynsky Club provides help with the program formation of Ukrainian works for various bands.

We encourage performers, musicologists, and composers to join this initiative in order to collect scores and share this information. Please send the scores via the form on the website.

Initiators of the Ukrainian Scores project: Lyatoshynsky Club, Ukrainian Live Classic, and Ukrainian Institute.

Lyatoshynsky Club is a community of passionate people from culture and business, aimed at discovering, multiplying, and promoting Ukrainian music at home and all around the world. The community is named after the outstanding Ukrainian composer Borys Lyatoshynsky, whose work and pedagogical activity became the main impetus for the development of professional music in the XX century. Around his figure, there was united a group of Ukrainian composers of the 1960s “Kyiv avant-garde”, which, like their teacher, set artistic and value guidelines for modern and future composers’ generations.

Professional and high-quality audio and video recordings are available at your fingertips. Ukrainian Live Classic is created by the teams of the Lviv Organ Hall and the Galician Music Society. The project is bilingual, the main version is English. The main goal of the Ukrainian Live Classic is to open Ukrainian classical music to the world.
