The Canada Council for the Arts is delighted to announce the winner of the Jules Léger Prize for New Chamber Music.
Awarded annually, the Jules Léger Prize for New Chamber Music is a competition for professional composers and sound creators from Canada, designed to encourage the creation of new chamber music.
Jules Léger Prize for New Chamber Music Winner ($7,500)
Alice Ping Yee Ho for her composition, “Femme de Glace” (2024)
Alice Ping Yee Ho is a distinguished Chinese Canadian composer celebrated for her distinctive voice and versatile contributions to opera, orchestral music, chamber ensembles, dance and theatre. Notable accolades include Symphony Nova Scotia’s 2022 Maria Anna Mozart Award, the 2022 Barlow Endowment commissioning prize, the 2019 Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Prize and the 2013 Dora Mavor Moore Award for The Lesson of Da Ji. A two-time JUNO Award nominee, Alice Ping Yee Ho has released ten solo albums, and her compositions have been performed by esteemed ensembles and orchestras such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Radio Choir and the Luxembourg Sinfonietta.
