Toronto, Ontario – Sinfonia Toronto is delighted to announce its revised 2020-2021 Masterpiece Series. Now entering its 22nd season, Toronto’s chamber orchestra will present four concerts in the orchestra’s long-time home, CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio and three in Koerner Hall in the TELUS Centre for Performance & Learning in midtown Toronto. The 2020-2021 concerts will be livestreamed to a global audience as well as available for in-person attendance.

The new season will launch on Sunday, October 25, 3:30 PM at Koerner Hall with a program of Beethoven & Shostakovich, dedicated to front-line workers and health care providers.

Director of Operations Margaret Chasins commented, “We have just concluded a new agreement with our musicians and the Toronto Musicians’ Association for 2020-21.  It includes modest increases in fees and pension contributions and special provisions for livestreaming, which is great – livestreaming can put us in touch with listeners around the world. The orchestra has followers in many countries, especially fans from its international tours.  For the last ‘Maestro’s Chat’  webcast we had participants from Europe, the UK and South America.  And of course we all look forward to serving our live audiences in Toronto and around Ontario.” She added, “It will also be a pleasure to see and hear our wonderful musicians in Koerner Hall this season.”

After months of solo work on scores, Sinfonia Toronto’s Music Director Nurhan Arman looks forward eagerly to getting back to rehearsals and concert.  “I am truly excited to return to performing again. There is a lot of pain and sorrow around Toronto and the rest of the world now. As musicians, we have a role and duty in the healing process.  And we are fortunate… as a compact chamber orchestra we will have no problem with physical distancing. Our size and repertoire are ideal for present conditions.  I am also ecstatic about livestreaming our concerts this year.  We have brought audiences to their feet in Europe, South America, the US and China, and now audiences around the world will be able to enjoy our virtual concerts.”

Maestro Arman spent time and care re-envisioning the 2020-21 season: “I have reprogrammed the season to fit today’s realities. We have some outstanding Ontario-based guest artists, but for many concerts the star will be our orchestra.  We will present works that show off the orchestra’s brilliance and versatility as an ensemble, in great music to delight, inspire and intrigue us and wash away daily worries.”

In-person attendance at 2020-21 concerts will be limited in accordance with public health directives. Margaret Chasins confirmed “our foremost priority is the health and safety of our audiences, musicians, volunteers and hall staff members. Together with our halls we will take extraordinary precautions and follow all City guidelines.”

Information on concert dates, venues and repertoire is now available at sinfoniatoronto.com.

All information for livestreamed concerts is at Virtual Concerts.

Ticketing information for in-person attendance will be available on the website from September 10.
