Montreal, February 27th, 2024. The Mélodines series continues on Wednesday, March 6th at noon in Place des Arts’ Salle Claude-Léveillée with a recital by young pianist Zhan Hong Xiao, who has already won numerous prizes and awards since his debut in 2015.

Zhan Hong Xiao discovered music at his elementary school, the Maîtrise des Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, at the age of nine. He holds a Master’s degree with distinction from the Conservatoire de Montréal, where he studied with Richard Raymond. In 2015, he represented Quebec at the CFMTA National Piano Competition, where he won 2nd prize and two other special prizes. In 2017, he won the Grand Prix of the Virtuose program hosted by Gregory Charles and Marc Hervieux on Radio-Canada. In 2018, he was awarded 3rd prize in the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal National Competition. In 2019, he was named by Place des Arts as a “promising young artist from our region” alongside Stéphane Tétreault, Dina Gilbert, Nicolas Ellis and Kerson Leong. Internationally, he won 1st prize at the Orbetello Competition in Italy and was a semi-finalist at the international competitions in Poznan (Poland) and Ferrol (Spain). As a concert artist, he has performed with the Sinfonia de Lanaudière at the Festival International de Lanaudière, the Orchestre Métropolitain at the Maison Symphonique, the Orchestre Classique de Montréal at Bourgie Hall and the Orchestre symphonique du Conservatoire de Montréal. He recently won 2nd prize at the Prix d’Europe 2023 and was named one of 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30 by CBC Music.
