Montreal, June 7, 2021 – The Slavic music and culture festival returns this summer in virtual mode, from June 15 to July 10, with a program dedicated to the magical world of Russian fairy tales. Artistic director Irina Krasnyanskaya presents her new program as follows:
For nine years, to accompany the arrival of summer, we have been organizing a real musical celebration of the Slavic communities of the city. Our goal is to make Montrealers aware of the richness of our culture, and to introduce them to both rising stars and recognized masters of the classical scene. Slavic music has always been very inspired by fantasy and fairyland, so we decided that, in order to get away from the hardships of the pandemic, this will be an ideal theme for our 2021 edition!
Webcast of three concerts and a film
This year, the festival will open with a performance by cellist Cameron Crozman, Classical Revelation CBC 2020, in a duo with pianist Philip Chiu. In their concert, available online from June 15, they will interpret Sergei Rachmaninov’s cello and piano sonata.
On June 22 will be released the new show by singer and comedian Natalie Choquette, accompanied by the Orchestre Nouvelle Génération. “My TRUE story!” is a comic replay of Little Red Riding Hood that will take the spectators into a trip all around the world on the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
The Soviet film “Sadko’s Round-the-World Trip”, which has won numerous international awards, can be viewed starting June 25. This is a fantasy film for the whole family, which showcases the hero of Russian tales Sadko and the music of the composer Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov.
For the festival’s final concert, broadcast starting June 29, the Montreal Piano Duo will present a two-piano program that will associate favorite works by Tchaikovsky, Borodin and Lyadov, all inspired by characters of fairy tales and legends: Kikimora, Prince Igor, and Sleeping Beauty.
