Vienna/Verona/London – This summer, Russian born soprano Ekaterina Bakanova is making her double debut at two of the most prestigious opera stages in the world: From 9th until 16th July she will sing the role of Musetta in “La Bohème” at the Royal Opera House in London alongside Piotr Beczala. After that she will empersonate Donna Anna in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the great open-air spectacles in the Arena di Verona (30th July, 12th August).
Ekaterina Bakanova has recently become a secret tip among international opera stages from Beijing to Rio de Janeiro. Particulary in Italy, the soprano (*1984) is already regarded an absolute star: Her fruitful collaboration with the “Teatro La Fenice” in Venice has given her great critical acclaim for impersonating the leading role of Violetta in “La Traviata” in April and May this year, and be it in Venice, Turin, Trieste, at the Puccini Festival in Torre di Lago, Rome or Palermo – her expressive acting and her precise, honey-soft and warm soprano consistently brought her sensational reviews in the motherland of opera. No wonder that conductors such as Jean-Christophe Spinosi (Paris, Toulon, “Ensemble Matheus”), director Henning Brockhaus and opera houses such as the NCPA Beijing or the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro have already become aware of her:
“She is a singer of exceptional quality, and soon will be counted among the greatest soloists of our time”, thus judged the Brazilian magazine “Sempre Opera”.
In early spring, Bakanova was twice live-broadcasted on Italian RAI radio and television with the premiere of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” at the Teatro Regio in Turin, where she sang the role of Susanna, as well as in Mozart’s “Requiem”, again in Turin.
In October this year, once more Mozart will be her guardian at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, where she is going to sing Pamina in “The Magic Flute”. Palermo is also waiting for her in “Carmen” in 2016 when Ekaterina Bakanova is confirmend for another production in China at the NCPA Beijing.
With her double debut this summer, soprano Ekaterina Bakanova – who lives in Austria – is ready to melt the hearts of all opera enthusiasts and she firmly plans to take her leap to the very top:
“With my singing I intend to open a wide emotional world for my audience. And also to me it is very important that, by doing so, I can awaken a lively enthusiasm for opera in younger people”, thus comments Ekaterina Bakanova her ambitions.
