He began his position as OSM Concertmaster in 1982, while the Orchestra’s Music Director was Charles Dutoit.
Richard Roberts’s performance history with the OSM is impressive: he has embarked with the Orchestra on 50 world tours and has contributed to some one hundred recordings. His 40 years of music-making with the Orchestra have placed Mr. Roberts as 8th worldwide for longest-serving Concertmaster, according to the magazine Slipped Disc.
Mr. Roberts is also currently a professor of violin at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. He previously taught at the University of Minnesota, the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Conservatoire de musique du Québec. Richard Roberts serves, moreover, as an editor with Ovation Press, specializing in sheet music for string players.
Esteemed by his peers for his rigour and reliability, Mr. Roberts appreciates all styles of music and particularly enjoys discovering new works.
