McGill University sent the following message Monday to alumni and stakeholders :
“Because you are such a valued member of the Schulich School of Music community, we felt you should be among the first to hear some exciting news: McGill is embarking on a multi-million-dollar project to upgrade the famed Pollack Hall concert facility and turn it into a world-class performance venue designed for 21st-century audiences and artists.

The announcement was made by McGill Principal Suzanne Fortier and the Dean of the Schulich School of Music, Brenda Ravenscroft, prior to a concert last Friday by the McGill Symphony Orchestra.

This investment in one of Montreal’s most cherished cultural landmarks comes at a crucial time. As performers around the world continue to face unprecedented hardship, this project stands as a reaffirmation of the value of the performing arts and the vital role music plays in bringing people together.

The transformation of Pollack Hall is at the heart of the School’s mission to reimagine music performance in McGill’s third century. With greatly improved functionality, aesthetics and accessibility, the renewed Pollack Hall will provide a fertile training ground for the next generation of performers and offer an unforgettable experience for all music lovers.

The project, with an estimated cost of $25 million, was born out of a partnership between McGill and private philanthropy. More than $20 million has already been committed to this initiative, and the School is launching a campaign to raise the remaining $5 million.”
